  • 2 can (10.5 oz) condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 0.5 cup milk
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 0.25 tsp black pepper
For the topping
  • 1 package (2.8 oz) crispy fried onions

Equipment

  • 1 9x13-inch baking dish
  • 1 12-inch skillet

Method

Prepare the filling
  1. Heat the oven to 375°F.
  2. Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  3. Cook the ground beef in a 12-inch skillet over medium heat, breaking it into small pieces, until browned and it reaches 160°F.
  4. Drain excess fat from the beef.
  5. Stir the onion powder, green beans, cream of mushroom soup, milk, soy sauce, and black pepper into the beef until evenly combined.
Assemble and bake
  1. Spread the mixture in the prepared baking dish.
  2. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, until hot and bubbling around the edges.
  3. Sprinkle the crispy fried onions evenly over the casserole.
  4. Bake for 5 to 8 minutes, until the onions are golden.
  5. Let the casserole rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

For the crispiest topping, add the fried onions only for the final bake. Refrigerate leftovers for 3 to 4 days; freeze the casserole without the onion topping, then add the topping after thawing. For a gluten-free swap, use gluten-free cream of mushroom soup, tamari, and certified gluten-free crispy onions.
