Creamy Ranch Chicken Thighs

Creamy ranch chicken thighs are pan-seared until golden, then simmered in a garlicky ranch sauce with parmesan and cream cheese for a thick, silky finish. This one-skillet method keeps the chicken juicy while the sauce coats every bite.

Ingredients

Chicken
  • 2 lb boneless, skinless chicken thighs
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp kosher salt
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper
Ranch Sauce
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 4 clove garlic minced
  • 1 can (1 oz) ranch seasoning mix
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 0.5 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 oz cream cheese
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 tbsp chopped fresh parsley
Garnish
  • 0.25 Fresh parsley
  • 0.25 Cracked black pepper

Equipment

  • 1 cast iron skillet

Method

Season and sear the chicken
  1. Season the chicken thighs with garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, kosher salt, and black pepper.
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat until shimmering.
  3. Sear the chicken thighs for 5–6 minutes per side until golden brown.
  4. Remove the chicken and set it aside.
Make the garlic ranch sauce
  1. Melt the butter in the same skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add the minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds, stirring, until fragrant.
  3. Stir in the ranch seasoning mix until evenly combined with the butter and garlic.
  4. Pour in the chicken broth and heavy cream and stir to lift any browned bits from the pan.
  5. Add the cream cheese, Parmesan cheese, and Italian seasoning, then stir until the cream cheese melts and the sauce looks smooth.
  6. Simmer the sauce until it thickens, stirring occasionally.
Finish and garnish
  1. Return the chicken to the skillet and spoon the sauce over the top.
  2. Cover and cook for 8–10 minutes until the chicken reaches 165°F (74°C).
  3. Garnish with fresh parsley and cracked black pepper, then serve.

Notes

For best browning, pat the thighs dry before seasoning and keep the skillet at a steady medium-high so you get a deep golden sear. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3–4 days; reheat gently in a skillet with a splash of broth or cream to loosen the sauce. Freezing isn’t ideal because the cream sauce may separate after thawing. Dairy swap: use half-and-half plus a dairy-free cream cheese alternative to reduce richness while keeping the ranch flavor.
