Maple Brown Sugar Bacon Crackers

Maple brown sugar bacon crackers bake low and slow until the bacon is crisp and the sweet topping is bubbling and deeply caramelized. Buttery crackers and a 10-minute cooling rest make these sweet-and-salty bites easy to serve as an appetizer.

Ingredients

  • 1 cooking spray nonstick; for the wire rack
  • 36 crackers buttery rectangular, such as Club crackers
  • 12 slices bacon regular-cut; cut into thirds
  • 0.5 cup light brown sugar packed
  • 3 tbsp maple syrup pure

Equipment

  • 1 18x13-inch rimmed baking sheet

Method

  1. Heat the oven to 275°F.
  2. Line an 18x13-inch rimmed baking sheet with foil.
  3. Set a wire rack on top of the baking sheet and lightly coat the rack with nonstick cooking spray.
  4. Arrange the crackers in a single layer on the rack.
  5. Place one piece of bacon on each cracker.
  6. Stir the brown sugar and maple syrup together until evenly moistened.
  7. Spoon about 1 teaspoon of the brown sugar mixture over each piece of bacon.
  8. Bake for 60 to 75 minutes, rotating the pan halfway through, until the bacon is crisp and the topping is bubbling and deeply caramelized.
  9. Let the crackers cool on the rack for 10 minutes, until the topping firms up.

Notes

For the crispest crackers, keep them in a single layer on the rack so heat circulates underneath. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days; freezing is not recommended because the crackers can lose their crispness. For a gluten-free option, use gluten-free buttery crackers.
